Below is information about an incoming street renewal project utilizing Asphalt-Rubber Cape Seal in the West Adams neighborhood scheduled from March 18th to March 22, 2024. 

What is an Asphalt-Rubber Cape Seal?

An Asphalt-Rubber Cape Seal is a pavement treatment designed to extend the life of your street. It uses a special rubberized binder that offers several advantages:

• Increased Strength and Flexibility: This reduces cracking and improves resistance to future damage.

• Waterproof Seal: Protects the existing pavement from water infiltration.

• Extended Lifespan: Provides a new wearing surface for the road, lasting over 10 years.

Please note: While the ride quality won’t significantly improve, this treatment is necessary to address existing cracks and prevent further deterioration.

How will this project affect you?

• Parking Restrictions: “No Stopping Anytime” signs will be posted 72 hours prior to construction. Parked vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense. Please move your car beforehand if needed.

• Special Needs: Contact the City in advance to discuss any accommodations required.

• Trash and Recycling: Collection will continue as usual. The contractor will coordinate with the crews to ensure minimal disruption.

• Street Access: Expect temporary lane closures and delays. Utilize alternate routes or transportation whenever possible.

• Resident Access: Residents will not be allowed on the street during construction and curing of the new pavement.

• Traffic Flow: Once cured, local traffic will resume at slow speeds. Driveways to businesses and shopping centers will remain accessible, except during works directly in front.

Important Reminders:

• Do not wash cars or water lawns 24 hours before and during construction to avoid damaging the new surface.

• Obey all posted construction signs and traffic control measures.
